VARIANT

Typeface Creation

PROBLEM

Develop a logical, legible system of letterforms in the form of a working typeface by applying appropriate typographic knowledge to establish a set of rules to which letterforms will adhere consistently. There should be an uppercase, lowercase and a number system the follows the same principles of serifs, font weight, etc. The typeface should have inspiration from the designer's choosing whether imaginary or realistic in todays standards,

SOLUTION

Variant has been inspired by comic book typefaces and taking inspiration from the comic book superhero "Batman." Angles and points of the font come from aspects of the character himself as well as the city he resides in, Gotham. The mood of Variant should be menacing, and imposing against the viewer.

The typeface Variant should follow a serif with a medium contrast system. Use of the type face should be on titles and headers, mostly for display and large lettering.
